The practical example: Restorative Justice: “Offender-Victim Circle” › Working Group on Prison and Probation Services
For the VPN Homepage | Violence Prevention Network I have already offered two online training courses for interested parties in 2024 and 2025, both of which were very well attended. There, I was able to present my restorative justice project in the penal system to a specialist audience, which is rightly referred to as a "flagship project." Based on the concept of "Survivor-Oriented Work in the Penal System" (BoAS) that I developed, a group dialogue was successfully conducted in prisons in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia between inmates, victims of crimes (but not of the actual crime), and members of society who are neither responsible for nor affected by the crime. In addition to the concepts of restorative justice and reparation, the ideas of rehabilitation and resocialization were also implemented. Based on the individual project steps at the organizational and content levels, the benefits for all participants as well as the factors for success and failure of the restorative justice process were presented and discussed professionally.
