I am delighted that over the next two years I will be part of a dedicated working group of the European Forum for Restorative Justice, which is concerned with the promotion and further development of so-called restorative justice in Europe. This task is a valuable opportunity for me to contribute my experience and to provide new impetus together with other experts from Europe.
For eight years, I have been supporting teams in prisons in conducting RJ circle dialogues involving the local community, the social network and those affected by crime. For me, prisons are not just places of imprisonment, but also spaces in which humanity, relationships and encounters must be strengthened. It is therefore particularly important to me to build bridges and promote new approaches in the justice system - now also at European level. During my two-year term of office, I will be intensively involved in the coordination and scientific monitoring of projects in prisons across Europe. My goal is to sensitize justice ministries and prisons to the importance of restorative justice and to contribute to the implementation of sustainable measures. A first important step will be to identify, analyze and create synergies with existing RJ projects in the member states.
I will keep you regularly informed about developments in the working group here on the blog. I am looking forward to your suggestions, opinions and the exchange with you - let's work together to further advance restorative justice!
